Terra Alta's region, located in Tarragona, fits the Ebre river among mountains and cliffs. The area is a true natural paradise. The terroir is marked by saws, ravines, boulders and cuts that, at its ensemble, obligates the river to draw a huge curve to the northeast, heading at its final stretch, towards to the Mediterranean.
On July 25, 1938, an important contingent of republican combatants, crossed the Ebre giving onset to the longest and bloody battle of the Civil War. The aim of the Republic was to create an environment of wear to prolong the conflict until the hypothetical outbreak of the war in Europe.
It was not possible, the definite withdrawal was given on the 16 of November, 115 days later.
